The Poisonwood Bible
I'm a bit of a hater when it comes to best of book lists and anything Ophrah shills -- sorry! -- but despite myself, I really really enjoyed this book. It's the best of a historical novel: incredibly engrossing characters, a great plot, and deliciously detailed writing. I was captivated from the moment I started this book and the conclusion left me breathless. I felt like I *knew* the characters and I truly missed them once I finished reading.
